Doug has been writing and performing music for as long as he can remember. His earliest memories are of creating music alone and with his brothers as a child growing up outside Philadelphia. After graduating from NYU and moving to Los Angeles in the early 90s, Doug formed and fronted the bands Petting Zoo, Doug Elkins and Then Some, and The Way Out. Doug currently records as a solo artist and performs in and around the Los Angeles area.

Doug is a featured musician and vocalist on many professional recordings including Brandy's platinum single ''Sitting' up in My Room' featuring LL Cool J.
Doug’s original compositions draw on an eclectic musical palette that includes Pop, Rock, Funk, Hip-hop, Jazz, Electronic, Alternative, Folk and Classical influences and has been featured in film, television and other media.
Major Clients include Bravo, Groove Addicts, HBO, Musicvergnuegen, Red Zone Entertainment, Rehegoo, Steve Harvey Productions, Telespree, and Warner Chappell.
Doug is the Music Director at Vernon Middle School in Montclair, California. In 2021, in partnership with Music Will (Musicwill.com), Doug introduced the Modern Band * program to the Ontario-Montclair School District. Previously, Doug was the Music Director at the Kingsley Conservatory of Music, a public elementary school in the Ontario-Montclair School District, and was awarded 'Teacher of the Year' in 2020.
* Modern Band teaches students to perform the music they know and love, as well as compose and improvise. Modern Band introduces the skills necessary for students to perform on electric guitar, electric bass, keyboard, drums, and vocals, as well as utilizing computers and music technology. Many styles of music are discussed, demonstrated and performed by students including rock, pop, reggae, hip-hop, rhythm & blues, electronic dance music, and other contemporary styles.
